In the past few years, with the popularity of artists like Lil B, Waka Flocka and now Chief Keef, rappers have begun to ignore the repetition and spacious mine fields of traditional “lyricism” and instead focus on doing new things tonally, rhythmically and lyrically. They may as well be giving Top to ghosts for all the good it does. Everyday there are children all over the world crafting what they believe are infinitely clever pun soaked metaphors similes and punch lines that will shock and awe even the wittiest listeners. Plus you will never hear anyone do it as well as Doom did, ever, ever, ever, ever. In reality, this is just one ideal that can be reached within rap. This assumes lyrics should be judged from the perspective of complex dictionary wordplay a la Shakespeare/Nas/MF Doom/Biggie etc. When these people are pushed, they will tell you Chief Keef is a bad rapper because he’s lyrically trash. Rap music that is loud and fun makes me upset.”Įverything else is their own fear insecurities and projections onto Keef just cause he makes them feel a certain way for whatever largely suspect reason. A lot of what has been said about Keef’s image, his actions, his influence, the complete and utter failure of Black America and the Western World are all fronts and equivocations for people who know one thing about Keef: when they hear his music they don’t like it. I want to argue against a few things, and I can because this is my blog. Then Keef got sentenced to 60 days thanks to the manipulation of Snitchfork and I had to soil myself by engaging in the Chief Keef Sink Piece Circle Jerk ©™. Is he assaulting culture? Is he the greatest rapper to ever live? What’s worse, the fact that Chief Keef sucks the marrow from infants or that he raps like a stupid mush-mouth? During this time I’ve seen a maelstrom of shit fly in all directions of the Internet about him.

Keef is important in myriad ways, and understanding him and the trend in rap he epitomizes can help us better understand our culture and society. I got so sick of reading Chief Keef Think Pieces I fucked around and wrote one.
